CULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS: *These programs work best as residencies.*
As a cultural educator, I celebrate and share the cultures of the African Diaspora and Latin America in my interactive workshops on music, dance, story, and theater.

Cultural Education is a way to look at the world through the practices and beliefs that make us similar and different. Everything we do is cultural. When we understand how this affects our lives and worldviews, we feel more self-confidence and compassion for others.

The Way to Harlem: Music & Poetry of the Harlem Renaissance (ages 5 - 500)
Participants learn about poetry and major figures in this movement by reading, writing, interpreting poetry, singing, and dancing.

Dancing Roots: Intro to Music & Dance of the African Diaspora (ages 5 - 500)
Participants explore music and dance of Black peoples with video, interactive songs and dance group work. Dance styles include various African, hip-hop and Latin forms.

Music Makes Me Feel… (ages 5 - 500)
Together we explore the magic of Black music and how it affects our moods, all while moving, reflecting, and sharing our favorite styles. Then we create a work of art to take home.

Black Banjos and Beyond: African Improvisation in the Americas (ages 5 - 500)
Inspired by NC’s own Carolina Chocolate Drops, we explore the brilliance of enslaved Africans by learning the origins of the banjo, the hambone, and American music.

Me & the Media: Modern Mythologies (ages 5 - 500)
We watch a movie steeped in the storytelling tradition (heroes and heroines, conflict and resolution) and reflect on how the media industry has all but replaced people as the creator of our stories: and what we can do to tell our tales and create our own reality.
